The Ultimate Hot Cocoa, Recipe

Living in Missouri, the weather goes from super cold to perfect weather on a dime. The winters seem to drag on and when the sun goes down SO early it makes for long nights. On one of the first frosty nights we had, I rushed to the cabinet and mixed up a prepackaged hot cocoa mix and was left with a need that just wasn't getting met. Yes, it was hot... but it was like drinking watered down hot chocolate.

I have heard of creamy, frothy hot chocolate but I was beginning to think it was a myth. That was until I came across a recipe that really made me believe again. After going to the store and buying all of the ingredients, I was ready. This it what you do....

Ingredients

  • 6 1/2 cups powdered milk
  • 1 (5 ounce) package non-instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 cup powdered chocolate drink mix
  • 1/2 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine powdered milk, chocolate pudding mix, chocolate drink mix powder, creamer, confectioners' sugar, and cocoa. Divide the mixture between two 1 quart jars. Seal, and decorate as desired. These can be stored in a dry area for up to 3 months.
  2. Attach a tag with the following instructions: Hot Cocoa: Dissolve 2/3 cup cocoa mix in 1 cup boiling water. (another recipe suggested 1/3 cup mix, but it was way to watery and weak for me.... to make this the ULTIMATE Hot Cocoa I knew it could be I suggest 2/3 cup mix to 1 cup boiling water)

After making the original recipe and tweaking it just a little, I was eager to taste this sweet cup of cocoa. *deep sigh* Wow, this creamy, chocolaty sweet (but not too sweet) cocoa was just what I was needing, it was everything and more of what I believed hot cocoa could be. The powder mixed in really well and didn't clump. I will never be able to go back to prepackaged instant cocoa again. I recommend this for all to try. This would be a perfect gift!

Will you try it?? Have you tried it?? What do you think??

My mom always use to make a homemade hot chocolate mix and it was always the best. I now make it for my children and everytime I drink it I think of her. There is nothing like that taste!

Awesome...this makes it so that I know how to make some friendly chocolate milk for my hubby. He's lactose intolerant so maybe I can opt out on the powdered milk and try something else??? Maybe?
